The History of the Pro

The Pro is our flagship product- the original KwickScreen. Let’s take a look at how it’s evolved.

Stage 1

The initial history of the Pro is inextricably tied to the history of KwickScreen, as the Pro, as we know it today, is essentially the culmination of iterative development that led to us creating the world’s first portable, retractable partition screen.

KwickScreen had fairly humble beginnings, initially conceived as part of Michael Korn’s (Founder) final year project at the Royal College of Art in 2007. He spent much of the year researching hospital environments and understanding their needs. However, at that time, he only developed a table top model of a KwickScreen (pictured below).

Stage 2

The project really started to become a reality in 2008, when the first working prototype was developed, and was exhibited to the NHS as part of their ‘Smart Ideas’ programme in St Pancras Hospital on July 4th of that year.

Stage 3

Between 2013 and 2015, the product underwent several redesigns, which involved dramatically simplifying the design and reducing the part count, eventually culminating in the creation of the ‘KwickScreen Pro’ model.

Bringing our manufacturing in house gave us much more control over the details of the design process.

The screen was made easier to maintain and easier to clean, and most importantly, our C-tube bistable technology received several patents. It is this unique technology that allows our screens to sit comfortably at any extension without rolling back in.

Stage 4

In 2016, KwickScreen started to gain traction across North America. The KwickScreen Pro v2 (pictured below) was also released:

Today

Our Pro is now at version 4 and continues to be one of our most popular products. KwickScreen has also used the knowledge from the Pro design process to launch a mobile dual-retractable screen, the Duo, and fixed-to-wall retractable screens, the Air and Kin
